Ba Mkii Shockwave Paint Problems

Well,

My BA's Paint has been "Flaking off" like no tomorrow, Especially around the fuel cap, on the roof and doors. It seems there is a problem with the Shockwave paint which causes it to flake off (See attached pictures)

So I took it to Westpoint Ford this morning, and it looks like they will be doing a full respray from the metal through Warranty due to something about the paint & primer not going well together... Ill need to wait for them to call me back and organise a date, But ill be without my baby for at least 4 weeks :(

After looking around on some other "Ford forums", It seems that this is a common problem with BA/BAII & BF Shockwave Cars, Especially ones built in 2005. It usually starts off looking like a little stone chip, but once the paint is removed , Every time you wash it more and more paint will come off because the water is getting under there. If you want the link to the thread just pop me a Personal Message and ill be more than happy to give it to you.

If anyone here sees this happening to the car, I would recommend taking it back to Ford and getting them to fix it up.. They should fix it up under Warrenty and also give you a hire car for the 4 weeks (So I have heard from other people that have had to have it resprayed)

Keep in mind that I discovered this about 3 - 4 week ago starting to happen, All that flaking is from TWO washes.

Something you'd expect on a 20 year-old vehicle that's never washed and left out in the weather!

You see that kind of thing from dodgy resprays, but not factory paint.

I would have said that is more likely to happen from an undercoat not being sanded or something - ie shiny on shiny doesnt stick.

I hope my car doesnt start that!

I have seen another car with a huges patch missing off a door - but cant remember what colour it was.

Crazy stuff. I washed that car every week, waxed it every 2 months, and had it polished at a place in Ringwood every 6 months, for 2 years and it does that!

Ive seen that sorta thing happen when the undercoat isnt rubbed down properly, and the top coat just flakes off.

Id like to see what would happen if you got a air gun/nozzle onto it, I reckon it would quickly turn your blue car to grey!

Fark, that's no good at all.

I've got a T in Shockwave too so I'll be lookin' out for this starting on mine.

factory primers aren't rubbed down at all, they are usually sprayed wet on wet, so if the primer had to much time to cure before the colour was applied then theres your flaking paint problem...
