During the day the city is just completely different and more focused on the work-goers so there's less "entertainment" and more "get this done" sort of attitude amongst the people and the businesses alike, but of course daytime is when the "see things tourist locations" are open and ready for action. I seriously recommend the dry-aged steaks at https://beefstouw.com/restaurants/melbourne-australien if you're looking for a top-notch quality steak. Check out https://www.theurbanlist.com/melbourne for anything specifically food or entertainment related. Check out https://www.broadsheet.com.au/melbourne for anything to do with art/design/fashion/general-entertainment. I recommend hiring a car or finding somebody to drive you around just to get a feel of the size of Melbourne and see a few of the "sights" that you might be interested in. Or just stay close to the CBD and follow the action.
