Speaking of a pita, I removed the water pump from my Landrover Discovery today. Holy farken sh*t is that a convoluted pile of bolts :rant2:

dead/dying-a-slow-death laptop... bought a new one... it's coming in the mail, bugger all work going to get done until it arrives ahha

Yep... Had a bunch of issues with it over the ownership time... Power pack died, CPU fan died a noisy death, had to re-paste the CPU and GPU heatsink connections... Oh well.

That sucks, our one is still going strong. The only issue is that the screen bezel has spilt down the side when you open it, but clips back together easily.

 

It probably explains why they were going so cheap for a while, there were probably a bunch of farked ones that needed selling.

Yeah, it was great to start with until the power pack died which seemed to put stress on the CPU that made it work harder and then the fan dying was the death knell and probably damaged the CPU or RAM with all of the heat it had to reject. Not an ideal scenario but onwards and upwards.

I'll let you all know when it arrives. I just don't have the time to take off work to properly repair the Acer (new CPU and/or RAM and complete re-install of windows), so will put it to the side and get replacement hardware at some point down the track to get it back into a working state and either use it for a dedicated purpose or sell it.
