Isn't there a history setting in Google Maps, so you can do a recce of the route and store the history, then it will follow the route you saved?

 

I think it was related to the Timeline feature they implemented.

If you open maps on your phone and press "Go" then it has your history in there that you searched for.

 

I know if you leave your location/gps on it takes note of where you go but I never use it so I'm not real sure about the timeline feature.
