Have stood in a recording room before, it's so muffled/deadened that even your own voice is disconcerting.  Odd sensation.  Feels like your ears are underwater or full of cotton or something.

Yeah, it won't quite be like that in here...there's still a rather large window that's just got blinds (so not even curtains, unfortunately), but it actually blocks out a significant amount of sound on the outside, so say my housemates already...so that's a plus. I can definitely notice the difference in acoustics inside the room though, so I'm pretty stoked.
