Made 55.21 kWh today. Cos of the weather and season, the inverter only went to 95ish%. Should make more tomorrow. 

 

New roof and insulation meant aircon wasn't needed, even though it got to 31c here today. House inside got to 24c.

Yep it's better than I expected. The first few days I was just walking through the house thinking it was going to be hot like usual, but it just doesn't get hot anymore.

That makes me consider my options for patio cooling. It's tempting to just put ceiling fans under the colourbond alfresco and patio...but then it's just going to be blowing the hot air around...where as I COULD put up an insulated patio AND fans, that way it would keep it cooler to start with. But it's a fairly big price hike to essentially replace my patio (probably like $15-20k, vs maybe $3k for fans and lighting).

Being an outside area it's gonna get hot anyway, so it might not be worth spending 5 times as much. You can get various types of solar vents that will suck the hot air out and prevent it building up.

Yeah, do wants fans and lighting either way. It's a lot of money for an outdoor area...but it does get pretty warm, and the way they did the truss setup is ugly and low-hanging. If I were to replace it I'd get it done so there's no visible cross-beams. Would look a whole lot nicer. Then could also have downlights instead of hanging lights. Again, though...lot of money that would probably be better spent on a new kitchen...

I have friends with a similar patio to yours and it's always hot as hell in the summer

you need to loose the lazer light sheets for a start

they let in heaps of hot

then you need to put insulation under the roofing sheets (like The Puffster has done to his house, and I, mine)

looking at your patio roof though, you'll need to have something on top of the rafters so you are not looking at the insulation

then you are left with the dilemma of no natural light...................... 

 

ceiling fans will do diddly squat if you don't insulate 

as you have already realized, you'll just be blowing hot air over yourselves
