Or is it not a backup system you're making, just a media delivery/home server system?

 

If that's the case then the "tree fiddy" was above market value.

If 1 disc fails it won't be a be an issue.

 

Can you recover if the NAS fails or goes missing or burns down?

 

If not then it's not backup - it's convenience and mostly fine - not a backup

Haven't got much better myself - got 3 copied backup drives on rotation that I swap out and keep 1 copy in the car.

 

I figure - if it goes wrong then the house is gone, the business is gone, the car is gone, the data is gone - will retire on the insurance payout

Hi everyone. In the next few months or before computer dies Im starting to look for new computer. 

What are you recommendations?

Need one that can handle sh*t loads of photo's and editing software. photo's and video's

I've been told to look at Mac but never owned one before.

I wouldn't buy a mac. The value for money and customization isn't there compared to building your own. 

 

I would build a pc and/or upgrade my current stuff. 

 

Have a good read of this link to wrap your head around it a bit better.

 

You can customize your build to your needs and save a lot of money like that. You can always add more storage as you need it providing your motherboard has enough connectors.

can a mac run crysis though?

RAM, cores/threads and diskspace/speed is what you're looking for if serious.

 

Current/new Mac Pro is legit on cost and performance for what you get now, but you're talking >$5k

 

Software you're used to and use also needs to be worth a thought.

 

As does the previous work you have on file/archived.

Adobe suite (photoshop, lightroom, premier) would be ok'ish to switch from the PC to the Mac with etc, but other solutions may not be as easy

 

Got the old man a top of the line iMac Pro a few years ago (his choice, not mine) - it's now a slug and frustrates him no end.

 

A midpriced PC I built back then (that performed similar) I could update tomorrow pretty cheaply and easily and he'd be happy for the next few years.

 

The Apple/Mac "solution" can and does work out fantastic if you switch to it for everything (phones, TV, computers, music, video, meals, religion etc) but doesn't play well with others in the real world - and it's a hell of a lot harder to switch back if you go a different direction later.

 

Either make the jump 100% or go with what you're used to.
