download a freeware program called CPU-Z; that'll tell you all of the details about your CPU/motherboard/RAM etc that you'd need to know for an upgrade.

Sounds decent. You can look at the ram specs by removing a stick and reading the side of it. It'll tell ya what it is and probably the primary timings as well
