Recently purchased a 700+ Rwkw G6E Turbo that is also saying gearbox fault if put in "D" after half an hour or so.

It doesn't seem to do it if driving in tiptronic,

Although it usually does not seem to go to 6th in tiptronic without pushing shifter over into D.

The ZF tune seems a bit rough.

At around 40Kmh for example it bucks around into what seems like covertor lock up,

Or shifting up and down gears,

This is fixed by manually shifting,

Down a gear to stop it hunting.

It has a Haltech Plug in ECU if that helps.

Would like a decent ZF Tune in there,

As in "D" it barely drops a gear on the freeway.

Supposedly the ZF is built with the bigger Ford Input shaft,

And rated at 1000Hp.

So can anyone do a decent ZF Tune,

that can just be put into "D" for Drag Mode and drive well at that power level?

Cheers

I am in QLD so along way away,

But good that you know that it is possible.

No idea man, have to check FB to see what shops are up to the task.

Can you pull the file and flash it back yourself? This would let any shop send you a file, might be worth looking into.

Yeah no worries, I will look into getting PCM Tech most likely.

Just that their are some events coming up,

So would like to get it all sorted

Before the events and that.

Cheers I will check it out.

Anyone from Brisbane on here that can recommend any shops that can do a decent ZF Tune?

Sounds more like the tune needs sorting out than a hard gearbox issue. If it drives fine in tiptronic but throws faults and hunts for gears in D, I'd be looking closely at the ZF calibration, torque reduction settings and how the Haltech is communicating with the TCU. A properly tuned ZF shouldn't be bucking around at 40 km/h or refusing to downshift on the highway, even at 700+ rwkw. I'd get the fault codes scanned first though, otherwise you're tuning blind.

Sounds more like you've got two separate issues going on here: a questionable transmission tune and a fault that only shows up once everything gets hot.

If it drives fine in Tiptronic but starts throwing gearbox faults in D after 30 minutes, I'd be checking logs before touching the tune. Could be slip values, converter lockup control, line pressure, temp-related sensor issues, or even torque reduction settings not playing nicely with the Haltech. A lot of built ZFs end up with aggressive custom tunes that feel terrible on the street.

The hunting around 40 km/h definitely sounds like the converter locking/unlocking repeatedly. That's usually tune-related, but if the gearbox is already seeing excessive slip it can trigger faults once temps come up.

At 700+ rwkw I'd want someone experienced with ZF 6HP calibrations to look at both the TCM and the Haltech setup together. No point loading another tune until you know what's actually causing the fault. A healthy ZF can drive almost like stock in D even at that power level if the calibration is done properly.

I'd start by scanning the TCM for codes and checking gearbox temps and slip values when the fault occurs. The fault code itself will probably point you in the right direction
