so what is the best way to remove the supply line from the assembly - do you do it before you try to remove the banjo bolt thingy?

Yep. just watch to see if the line is starting to twist as you undo and if so, use a 24mm spanner on the other section to hold against yourself until you crack the thread (not literally!!). Once loose, undo the oil sender end and move the line (banjo) out the way a bit to get access. That done, use the socket again and remove the remaining piece of the assembly from the engine. Proceed to remove the circlip and factory filter. Clean up and reassemble is reverse order using a little bit of blue locktite (medium hold) or similar on the internal threads and also where the fitting screws into the block. It's a tapered thread so dont overtighten - the locktite will seal it. Wipe off the excess (if any) and reattach the oil sender electrics - all done.

so - how do you get the oil supply line (the one that runs to the turbo) off the filter screen assembly. Does it just pull off? I don't have a 24mm spanner and the only way I can see to get my 24mm deep socket to the nut that holds the assembly to the block is to get the bloody pipe off

Get rid of the turbo filter quickly. A blocked one just cost me $5500 dollars

No but a tow from the SA border to Perth costs $4000. A blocked filter at 3500kms after 3 oil changes WTF.

When your stuck in the middle of no where you have no choice. At least I got both me, todd and the car home with in a reasonable amount of time and in good condition. Really disappointed in the failure of such a new car. Filter was full of metal. Iam about to open the engine oil filter to see whats in there.

Brownhornet, the banjo bolt goes through the oil supply line and isnt directly attached to it. As stated just watch the line while undoing to make sure its not twisting at all and once you have it apart it'll make sense.
