NZ is currently governed by a 3 party coalition (Labor, Greens, NZ First) The opposition national had 47% of the vote but it just wasn't enough by one or two seats. Labor only had 25% lol so them and Greens & NZ First jumped into bed together and that's what we have now. 1

I don't like how the preference vote works either. You should only have to vote for one party/person, this putting number's down for different groups is silly and lots of people would be confused and some parties getting seats because of a preference vote.You should have seen our local ballot paper, it had about 15 different candidates... 1
