The Plastidip Thread.

Ive tried the other one supercheap sells and it was pretty crap compared to plastidip. Hard / impossible to get smooth, and it didnt stick well so it peeled with a small bump with something like a bumper edge. Removing it was also a headache, even after 5 thick coats, ended up having to go with a caramel wheel.

I checked out the plastidip I did on my ECU cover, power steering reservoir and header tank.

Blown away that it was still holding as good as when it was done!

How much glossier is it then normal?

looks good- how did you go with the spray pattern of the pressure pack? I always find it comes out splotchy.

I kept on top of this by using these steps

- Cleaning nozzle between coats.

- Warm up the can before spaying, sitting in small tub of hot water worked well.

- I always test spayed to confirm fine spay pattern before applying coat, checking for splatter.

- don't spay until empty or use that portion in places not seen.

This is what worked for me.

Can I ask how you sprayed the fog light surrounds? Is that insert removable or did you just mask the fog light and the surround bumper?

EDIT: Anyone know where to get reasonably priced plastidip in Perth now? Usual supplier seems to have disappeared and other companies seem to be still charging $25 a can...

Yeh mate just done it with fog in place, but does take longer.

Just masked the bumper around the light and used those $2 plastic drop sheets over rest of car.

I was looking the other dayfrom the wheel arch, they looked like they where just held in by tabs, seen in Pic below.

Thanks for the picture mate. Had read something vaguely along the lines of a screw holding it there but wasn't sure.

When you masked it off, did you mask the 'lense' of the fog light and the bumper? Did you do a few light coats or a heavier coat?

I've tried it both ways with intricate stuff and I have found the dip can kinda 'fuse' with the dip as it dries...

Are to cover the lens I just cut a piece of newspaper a little larger then the lens. Then I just slipped in between the fog light surround.

With masking I masked taped directly around fog light on the tight angles, it's a bit fiddaly. Use a plastic paint scraper to lightly push tape into tight gaps, remember lightly as you want to get it out easy again.

I then covered the bumper around light with newspaper and then plastic drop sheet over bonnet etc.
