I'm on Tapatalk as Western Power didn't even bother to turn up yesterday & closed the call & today didn't xall me as asked & closed the second call as being all OK, when I still have no power to wall sockets since the storm on Sunday. So no computer & no way to charge my phone.

You say no wall sockets.. does that mean your lights are working? Doesn't sound like a supply authority problem if so..

It's good but worth the money I'm unsure, plus with wireless technology really coming online over the last few years I wonder if a hardline is the right option

Wireless is good if not congested, like 4G when it was brand new...could pull down and upload like 60Mbps in the Perth CBD at 2pm on a weekday on to my phone.  With more users on the tower it splits it "evenly" because it's shared bandwidth in nature.  You get congestion with hard line connections too but not as often from what I've experienced, it must slice the pie more rapidly/efficiently.

The technology isn't there to hold national baseload bandwidth with yet but if you look at the general trend towards wireless technology you can see it happening in the not to distant future

Ping would still be an issue with wireless as well

My fear is that we've invested in a super flash expensive steam train when the superior diesel is just around the corner

My main issue with wireless is the way it can be interfered with so easily by things well outside our control.  Your signal could be affected by a neighbour building a house and deciding they love metal wall sculptures all over the place for example.  I've even done jobs in old houses where the wifi access point failed to get a decent signal only two small rooms away, because we discovered the buildings at the time commonly had metal sheets placed inside the walls, presumably as some sort of fire retardant measure.  Not an issue for most structures thankfully!

Yeah no power to wall sockets. What really sh!ts me is the complete lack of feedback though.

The building is from the 1960's (built to hold athletes for the Commonwealth Games in 1962 I believe, as Beatty Park is across the road) so I'm really hoping it's an issue at the power distribution board area & not any internal wiring at fault.

Congestion is a big issue with wireless, then there's the fact that no-one wants a wireless tower near them because (sarcasm incoming) it causes cancer, it devalues my house by 50%...

When the Libs. touted wireless as better than FTTP and one of Murdoch's papers did "testing" to show it, people blasted it all out of the water, because they didn't test between buildings or in certain weather conditions, which both cause all sorts of signal issues.

Wireless is good as a last resort technology, look at any country currently doing a "high speed" rollout and it's predominantly using wired technologies, hell even the wireless towers hang off a fiber link.

WPMO: Been sleeping like absolute dog sh*t for the last week. No idea why, just have been. Been struggling to get to sleep. Was exhausted last night by 10pm so went to bed...think I was still awake at 1am, then awake at 4:30am for work. Blergh. Can I just skip the cup today and stick the coffee straight in my veins?
