Unfortunately I got a little excited and ordered the new gears and titanium backing plate before I finished pulling it apart with the hope of getting them before the weekend.

But as soon as I pulled the timing cover off, my situation became a little more serious... the oil pump housing is destroyed along with the left chain guide.

I did shut it down within seconds and it was only fresh oil a couple of weeks ago, so just maybe I will be lucky?

I will check the big ends once I remove the sump (which looks like a real *beep* of a job while still in the car!)

So if anyone has any tips on how to make it easier, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers Kent

I haven't done any of that with the motor in the car, but there isn't much more to pulling the motor out. I'd pull the motor out myself cos I'm in the driveway with an engine crane. You might do it differently with a hoist.

I've got a stock housing you can have if you want it. It has a couple of marks in it but it has low km so might measure up alright. I'll have to double check it. I've also got a low km genuine guide but in your situation you should really look at a new set with the atomic chain, upgraded guide post and sprocket etc. If you want any of it pm me.

If you got it shut down that quick you're probably fine.

Thanks for the offer, I might even take you up on that housing.

I will remove the sump over the weekend and I will let you know.

As for guides and chain etc, I agree with you about upgrading them.

I have a pair of custom grind cams with bigger lift and revised durations, so it's always best to ensure that the timing components are not going to be compromised by the increases.

Get some buscopan from the shops. Works wonders and is available of the shelf in woolies/coles etc
