AGL are buttheads. Apparently you can get everything started before the panels are on the roof but for some reason they won't do it. Oh well as long as they come out and get their stuff done quickly I'll be happy. A few weeks wait never really hurt anyone.

I think it is up to 6 grand here in SA.

 

You can recoup your money fairly quickly with a decent sized system. Mine will pay for itself in less than 3 years and continue to save me at least 4 to 5 grand a year after then.

Batteries are a thing but they are expensive af. Even importing them yourself from china you'll still wanna spend about 20 grand, last I checked. I think they'll never (in our lifetime) be a worthwhile thing for on grid people. We'll have free nuclear power before batteries I think lol.

 

It's not really about how much you sell it back for, it's about how much you save during the day. If no one is home during the day, it might take a lot longer to pay for itself.

One of the installers that did my place put the same system on his dad's house.
He drives for a limo service so he is home during the day for about half of the week
His bill went from $600 a quarter to $150!
We only get 9 cents per unit back into the grid, and pay 27 cents for their unit

As far as battery's are concerned, they are not financially viable yet
By the time you have paid off half of their worth, you need new ones
And they are anything but environmentally friendly, if that's your thing

I'm quite intrigued to see my next bill. Rough calcs indicate it should be less than $50, even factoring supply charges. Considering this time last year my bills were $350-450 for 2months, I can live with that.

 

Agree about batteries, though. Not even remotely financially viable yet due to the payback period coinciding with their expiry. I love the idea of being able to be somewhat off-grid, but from a pure cost/benefit stand point it's not worth it.

I am not sure where you guys got 20k for a battery system.

I called Infinate Energy 2 years ago and they told me that it would cost me 13k to get a Tesla battery and inverter for my system.

 

Oh BTW my last bill was a credit for $537.

Price hasn't really changed in 2 years for batteries then - that'd still cost about the same now. Payback on that is like 10 years...which is when their warranty expires and their capacity significantly reduced.

 

Also, stop showing off, Mr. "I get 40c per kWh"...
