Is great if the TV doesn't have Netflix/Plex app etc. Can also hooks up to your computer to stream games etc. Have got a lappy hooked to the bedroom TV so don't use it as much anymore. Great for travelling too - chuck in the bag with usb drive and HDMI and plug into whatever telly is in the room for any shows/movies/music etc. Can also make it the Plex server, freeing up/allowing you to turn off a PC if that's what you're running. 1
