Firmware for updates or problems is normally available from a lot of manufacturers, but firmware to change a items operational area is not normally made available

Firmware is just firmware, it changes things and normally it's free to muck around with, except in this case it's used as a tool by SCT to lock us out from buying cheaper through Ebay.

I could get a different region flashed onto my DVD player in the pc if I wanted to, but not do the same with the X3.

I had to bite the bullet and upgrade my box to XCAL3 last week =(

My car was being serviced, and a slight ping had to be rectified in my tune, leaving me with no alternative but to cough up the dough. bullsh*t.

Lodge a complaint to Consumer Affairs...

If in Victoria, just fill this out... I'm sure there will be something similar to this for other states...

Yeah but Herrod won't give it to you and it's not made available because if it was we would all be doing it!!

That's true, they are locking this down when with the way the world works today you can easily buy stuff from OS and use it here or flash it so it does what you want, but not with these guys. Just wait until they decide Australia is ready to upgrade from the X3 to whatever it is they'd like us to buy.

I lodged a complaint with the ACCC as removing a function from something after it's sold IS illegal. They spoke to me for more info and I hope they are going to take it further. More complaints lodged can only help. Heck this may even by a job for ACA!

I was going to get some mods done to my car but stuff it, I will hold off. I need to find out more about the other tuning software that's not run by @#$#%@s.

Are you nuts, this is definitely not a job for ACA or Today Tonight. :idunno:

I can see it now "Viewers, did you know that for as little as $2000 an 18yo P-Plater can double the power of their basic Ford Falcon and turn it into a weapon of mass distruction... Who is policing this???"

Like people don't know this can be done already. You could do it with a unichip, you can do it via the ecu direct. People still talk about chipping these cars but they don't know nobody does that, but they know you can do something.
