Edited 02/11/10 09:19 AM by Adam Removed comment: How much dealers make from the boxes is none of our business

I was also told the $100 buy back had expired. I'm sure it's come up before, but I can't see how this is legal. It's one thing to stop supporting a product and say you now use at your own risk and there are no more updates etc, but physically crippling the device and forcing you to purchase new hardware without compensation or heavily discounting new hardware, seems totally illegal. Has anybody talked to consumer affairs?

Has anybody talked to consumer affairs? You can still use the X1 to load and change tunes on your car. You just cant load new tunes into the box. If you hadnt decided to retune your car you wouldnt have been affected at all. Exactly the same happened to me. I wanted a new tune so I bought a X3. If you dont want to fork out for a new box, just keep your current tune. I have a VHS player ( X1), I can still play all the VHS tapes I own (old tunes) , but I cant buy the the latest movie (new tune) and play it on my VHS because it only comes out in DVD . So I have to buy a DVD player (X3). Its not an exact analogy but its pretty close. Edited 04/11/10 11:57 AM by arronm

I have an iPhone 3 (x1) but because some shifties figured out how to jailbreak it for use with illegal apps, apple (SCT) have disabled its ability to download new apps, I can still use the apps on it but cant update anything unless I buy the iPhone 4 (X3). Both sides can put a spin on it to support their arguement.
