Oddly enough I know a few firies.. and I'm not saying you're wrong.. But they don't get all that much extra for being rostered on over christmas.. It's luck of the draw with how the rotating roster ends up and one year you're on and you probably aren't for the next 3..

However no offence to your girlfriend.. BUT.. Really basic Cost/Benefit in my head means I'd rather see an ambulance worker paid more on christmas day incase I have an accident than a service station worker.. I can go a day without fueling up..

Ambulance doesn't really classify in service industry unless you stick the word 'Emergency' in front of it..

Gunna your Mrs is ill-informed or being ripped off. If she's working a public holiday then it's double time; ordinary pay for working plus either time in lieu or payment of another day's pay. MA000089 - Vehicle Manufacturing,Repair,Services and Retail Award 2010

If this is not the case then either she's being paid under an agreement that compensates accordingly (I.e. a higher ordinary rate at all times) or her employer is breaking the law.

Public Holidays are one of the NESs and can't be excluded or ignored by any award or contract.

PS: Qld Ambos get time & half for ordinary hours on a public holiday...less than any other award I've seen. And that is an absolute fckin disgrace.

Roads in Nepal piss me off. Nine and a half hours to travel 112km with no traffic is a bit slow for my liking.

What really pissed me off though was my seat soaked in vomit and the local lady sleeping on my lap.

Oh well...the views made it well worth the pain!
