Engineers didn't like the previous way the seller had fixed the new braces to the patio, which I'm glad about, given the way the braces wobbled and didn't appear to provide any rigidity at all.

Engineers initially wanted them to seam weld them in, but ended up coming up with alternative brackets instead. MUCH sturdier now, they actually feel solid if you hit them! Plus the engineers have now signed off on the patio being structurally sound and the application for retrospective council approval has been submitted...so now we wait.

Pic of new brackets:

Good that its signed off. Hope it gets approved. Will depend on block coverage and council allowance. Looks large, I dont like your chances....

Based on what theory, exactly, Arron?

I read the guidelines and it should fit within the "open space" requirements for the zoning of the block.

I'm hoping to be able to finish the backyard this year too.

Concrete slab (cause wog) 11m x 5m saw cut into 1m squares.

Very happy with the way it turned out.

Had a few issues submitting the plans for the pergola as they require it to be 4m off the back fence (even though the neighbours house is only 2m off the back fence.

So we ended up with a 7m x 4.5m pergola to be installed once the pool is complete (may just extend it down the track once the pool is signed off)

Plumbing and electrical hanging out is for a 4.5 metre wide brick outdoor kitchen with a granite benchtop.

It'll have a sink 4 burner gas bbq and a 1.2m wide charcoal bbq aswell.

On to the pool

After 3 quotes and 4 no shows I ended up choosing Peter from Panda Pools and Spas.

I highly recommend him to anyone in the Sydney area.

He only does a 3 or 4 pools a year though as he is semi retired and has enough work servicing the pools he has build over the years.
