I reckon it's gross.  Looks like the outside of the house is on your ceiling.  Wood boards inside being covered up by paint sucks.  Plaster over it and leave the supports is also nice.

yer hard decision I get so many different opinions. 

I dont mind it, hardly ever notice it, it does make the room feel nice and big and open. but also dark at the same time. 

one thing I also notice is a lot of people with this ceiling have a fan in there too. 

im leaning towards plastering over it. but cant decide to have pendants again or downlights. I loooooooove downlights led ftw

From an interior design perspective it's a better option to paint because plastering will lose the space by bringing the roof line lower ... Well appearing lower significantly. 

But painting it will leave the high ceiling feel which makes a room feel larger but without having the aged look of exposed timber ..... Plastering will be more expensive if you hire professionals ... Which if your anal like me you will need to do... Because you won't get the joins right and when you have lighting shinning on it directly (being a ceiling with down lights) you will notice greatly. 

 

Imo it will cost $150 to paint it yourself

then u can pay someone to gyprock over it. 

Keep in mind that means cornice and gyprock and potentially a few more timber supports to adhere the gyprock too depending on dimensions of the room. 

A sparky to install new lights/  down lights ...it's kind of a lot of effort for little result imo. 

But if yor a hater of exposed timber then u kind of have to

well yer some good points there fluff.

because it is so high I may get away with it 'feeling' a little lower if I plaster it.

sparky costs are no issue I got a guy.

would prob go square corners no cornice lol.  

I might get a quote to plaster. beams are 450-500 ish apart so should be ok.

If u plaster between the beams it will look better than plastering over the top fully

If u plaster over the top fully and don't put cornice I will come slap u

Whoever made this the standard thing is a right d¡ck head.  

 

 

 

It's about a foot or less above the top of my head.  Few drinks on the alfresco right under it and someone jumps up without looking would be just awesome.  Corner of wood just floating there in the air.

Once we have handover that is coming off and we'll put some matching hardiflex on there or something.  Without it there's a gap between the two roof levels...which looked better than this random bit of wood which matches nothing else! WTF
